Baseball Camp

July 22 - 26, 2019 

Baseball Camp is open to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 15. It is a comprehensive skills camp, which focuses on baseball fundamentals, conditioning, and sportsmanship. A talented and knowledgeable group of instructors, comprised of alumni and current players, will run the camp alongside Head Coach Tom Monfiletto. Campers will enhance their baseball skills and knowledge of each aspect of the game. Lunch is included. Campers can choose to attend half day. 

Daily Schedule

9:00 a.m. - Group instruction, individual position skills, drills
11:30 a.m. - Lunch
12:15 p.m. - Position work and team defense
12:45 p.m. - Pre-game warm-up
1:00 p.m. - Games and competitions
2:30 p.m. - Wrap-up, daily awards, motivational address
3:00 p.m. - Dismissal

Coaching Staff

Tom Monfiletto ’04, camp co-director, is the varsity baseball coach at The Hun School and works in the School’s communications and marketing department.  As a Hun student, he earned All-Prep and All-MAPL honors for baseball and football. He is a graduate of Hamilton College where he was the captain of the varsity baseball and football teams. Tom plans and oversees all aspects of the camp and instruction.
 
Brian Scanlon ’06, camp co-director, currently serves as director of business development for Play To Win.  Brian earned first team All-MAPL and All-Prep honors as a catcher at The Hun School and went on to play at Babson College where he became captain his senior year. Brian served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Babson from 2010-2014.  Brian helps plan and oversee daily camp operations and works with catchers and infielders.
 
Steve Garrison ’05, instructor, serves as the varsity pitching coach for The Hun School.  After earning 2005 NJ Player of the Year honors, Steve was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 10th round of that summer’s MLB draft. Steve enjoyed an 11-year professional career which included a stint in the big leagues with the New York Yankees. Steve works with pitchers.
 
Mike Russo ’08, instructor, is the pitching coach at Princeton University. After an All-MAPL and All-Prep campaign, the Philadelphia Phillies drafted Mike in the summer of 2008. Mike attended NC State for two years before transferring to Kean University where he became the 2011 NJAC Pitcher of the Year.  Mike also garnered second-team All-America honors, posting a 10-2 record with a 1.93 ERA. Mike finished his career at Kean with a 17-3 record.  Mike works with pitchers and outfielders.
 
Pat Jones, instructor, assistant varsity baseball coach, and math teacher at The Hun School, has been with the camp since its inception. Pat is the NJ Mavericks’ Travel Program Instructor as well as their 10U head coach.  He also serves as executive board member of the Redbird Baseball and Softball League. Pat played baseball and football at Juniata College. He works with catchers and outfielders.

Tuition

Hun Baseball Camp costs $285 for the week, which includes instruction, a camp T-shirt, lunches, a baseball hat, snacks, and an athletic bag.

Basketball Camp

Basketball camp is open to boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 15, and provides the quality instruction and attention that young basketball players need. Fundamentals will be emphasized in the morning during skill sessions followed by games and tournaments during afternoon play. A talented staff of current and former coaches, alumni, and current students assist at the camp. Lunch is included.

Coaching Staff

Jonathan Stone, currently the director of Resident Life at The Hun School, has also served as the head boys’ basketball coach since the fall of 2000. Before arriving at The Hun School, Jon spent two years at the University of Rochester as assistant coach and five years as a professional basketball player in Europe. Jon also spent a year with the Harlem Globetrotters organization as a member of their regular opponent, the Washington Generals. Jon attended Colgate University, Class of 1992. During his career he was a two-year captain, three-time MVP, two-time Most Improved Player, and still holds the single game scoring record of 52 points.

Tuition

Tuition for Basketball Camp is $285 for the week, and includes instruction, a T-shirt, and lunch.
