Student Entrepreneurs Team with Sage Dining Services to Launch Raider Rewards
Three students in the Entrepreneurial Studies class have officially launched Raider Rewards, an incentive and rewards program for the PA Café in the Wilf Family Global Commons at The Hun School of Princeton. Community members can download the app and join the rewards program for $5 to start earning rewards on purchases over $2 at the PA Café. Michael-John Gavaletz ’16, Ethan Saiewitz ’16 and Grant Shagoury ’16 negotiated with Sage Dining Services, the proprietors of The PA Café, to create the rewards program.
“When we were brainstorming ideas for our on campus business and we realized that we didn’t want to compete with The PA Café. The rewards program allows us to take advantage of the popularity of The PA Café, while helping Sage increase traffic by offering incentives to customers. Sage was very supportive and open to the idea from the start,” said Grant Shagoury.
Members of the rewards program will enjoy free snacks, drinks, and even meals. The fee for the program is split equally between Sage and Raider Rewards, with $2.50 going toward the cost of the reward items from the PA Café and $2.50 going to the app software subscription, marketing costs, and eventually towards a profit.
“Throughout the process we’ve learned how much planning needs to happen in order to start a business,” explained Michael-John Gavaletz. “We spent a lot of time researching different rewards programs and evaluating software. There is so much detail that you have to pay attention to when comparing different technologies.”
Raider Rewards needs 75 customers to break even. They hope to turn a profit, but more importantly they hope to show that a different type of entrepreneurship can flourish on campus.
“It’s a lot of work, but we have fun doing it. I look forward to this class every day,” said Ethan Saiewitz. “Our team members each bring different attributes to the business, which has helped make the launch a success.”
In the Entrepreneurial Studies class at The Hun School students learn business theory while having the hands on experience of launching and running day-to-day operations of their own small business.
To join Raider Rewards, simply download the app, register, and then verify the account at The PA Café. Raider Rewards can be reached at HunRaiderRewards@gmail.com.
