Is using ChatGPT ethical in the classroom? What assumptions does artificial intelligence make about us? What risk assessments can self-driving cars do in real-time? These are all questions that Middle School students are debating in their seventh grade coding and artificial intelligence course. Students in this course study machine learning, computer vision, and Python programming language through the lens of ethical and civic responsibility.
Middle School News
In 2018, a handful of Middle School teachers worked together to develop a six day orientation program called The Hun Way. This program is designed to create a space for students and teachers to get to know one another, learn how to build positive and supportive relationships, and understand the windows and mirrors that make up the individual experience at The Hun School. During The Hun Way experience, students also learn the ins and outs of positive psychology and participate in workshops on time management, organization, and success in the classroom.
Congratulations to The Hun School’s Class of 2024 on completing their coursework and graduating.
The following Middle School students were recognized at the closing assembly.
“Students who are intentionally introduced to their own emotional intelligence during adolescence are shown to have better relationships, coping skills, and academic success throughout life,” explains Mr. Weinstein. “They are better equipped to recognize and manage their own emotions and develop communication and leadership skills that advance them academically and socially in profound ways.”
What have attracted students are courses that they can use to accelerate their education, all taught by a dedicated and consistent teaching staff. A diverse assortment of motivated students from area schools are signing up for courses in Summer Session that offer course credit or prepare for a placement test that would allow them to test out of a course for the following school year.
