Upper School

Dynamic Private High School in New Jersey

The Hun Upper School is a dynamic and supportive community that inspires scholarship, student participation, and resilient character  on so many levels.

For over 100 years, we have embraced the mission of Dr. John Gale Hun by focusing maximum attention on students' individual needs. We carry forth this tradition with an emphasis on preparing Hun School graduates for a world of constant change.

Traditional courses are taught in a very non-traditional way, with students at the center of it all. Humanities courses take place around a Harkness table. STEM classes are active and hands on. And, all prioritized skill acquisition and experiential learning. Lessons are dynamic, innovative, personal, and un-prescribed.

At Hun, it’s not only the adults who teach, even though we have great teachers. Our students are frequently inspired by one another. Peer groups are powerful influences; therefore, we often facilitate learning among students, and guide them to their own understanding.

At the Hun Upper School, you will find enriching academic opportunities that are as fun as they are educational. Beyond classes in a traditional classroom setting, we also offer unique programs ranging from world-famous class speakers, an experiential ‘mini-mester’ called NextTerm, travel courses, leadership opportunities, and culture programming. Students will get real-world experience with hands-on learning opportunities. They can also choose to explore their interests through a concentrated field of focus, called the Scholars Program.

Throughout their private high school journey, students will be challenged and encouraged by teachers and faculty who take the time to get to know them personally. Your student will get the help they need to succeed under the guidance of a community of staff members, mentors, and peers.
