Health and Safety During Covid

Safety first, Raiders!

We are pleased to have our students and faculty on campus this year! In order to provide the safest and best possible experience for our students, our day-to-day operations are different, but we are still Hun, in every way. A Hun School education is all about personal relationships and to build those, we, along with the American Psychological Association, believe that in-person learning is essential for the health, intellectual growth, and social engagement of our students.

The School's Health and Safety Task Force has detailed health and safety strategies for every aspect of School life, from classroom management to student activities. We have made significant investments in our physical campus and programs in support of this effort. As part of the process, we are continuously consulting a multitude of resources: local, state, and federal government advisories; colleges, universities, and fellow international boarding and day schools, with the intention to meet or exceed all federal and state guidelines. For medical expertise, along with our own School physician and health staff, we consult with Dr. Sonja Rasmussen, a professor of pediatrics and epidemiology at the University of Florida and a twenty-year veteran at the Centers for Disease Control. We have also convened a panel of physicians and industry leaders from around the region to review our plans. We will continue to rely on their collective guidance, and adjust our plans and procedures as new information is released by the CDC and the New Jersey Department of Health.

Detailed information can be found on the following pages, but the salient points are as follows:

  • The Hun School has returned all students to in-person learning every day.
  • Students who cannot attend, who request virtual accommodations for high-risk medical conditions or other reasons, or become ill, are supported through virtual learning.

  • Masks and physical distancing are required on campus, except while eating, during intense aerobic activity, or when boarders are within their community in the evenings.

  • The Hun School is offering athletic activities in conjunction with state and local guidelines.

  • Meals are offered but modified to incorporate an online ordering system. Lunches are delivered to students or available for pick-up for non-teaching staff. Breakfast and dinner in the dining hall are available to the resident community. Grab and Go breakfast, lunch, and snacks are available for all students in the PA Café.

  • Some programs and events are still modified to comply with limits on crowd sizes and social distancing measures.

  • Temporary modifications to the student dress code are in place.

STUDENT VACCINE ELIGIBILITY

All students ages 12 and up, who live or are educated in New Jersey, are eligible for a Covid-19 Vaccine. The School encourages anyone who is eligible to receive the vaccine. In addition to the health benefits to the individual and our community, fully vaccinated individuals are exempt from testing and quarantine.

If your student has ever experienced a severe side effect from a previous vaccination, please contact your health care provider to determine the best setting in which to receive your vaccine. Please note that 12 to 18-year-olds are only eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Use this link to register with the NJ Vaccine Scheduling System

positive case

When a student, faculty, or staff member is presumptive or confirmed positive for Covid-19, the School will work directly with the Princeton Department of Health to determine next steps; which will likely include:
  • The individual will immediately begin isolation.
  • Individuals determined to be close contacts (within close proximity for fifteen minutes or longer) will be identified. It is critically important that all members of our community willingly and truthfully comply with the School’s and Health Department’s contact tracing efforts.
  • Close contacts will quarantine and monitor their health for a period of ten to fourteen days, depending on the regional risk level.
  • Relevant spaces will be cleaned and disinfected before further use.
  • If a community member tests positive, the School community will be notified; individual privacy will be maintained.
The rest of the community may proceed normally, but should be extra vigilant about personal health monitoring, physical distancing, and personal hygiene.

Please note: Only  proof of vaccination will preclude the need for quarantine.
