We’re so glad you’re considering The Hun School.

Our application process is a two-way conversation.

We want to learn about what sparks your curiosity and where you shine, while giving you a genuine sense of life at Hun — in the classroom, on the field, and everywhere in between.

To get started, take a look at the key steps and deadlines so nothing sneaks up on you. If you inquire early, we can help you stay organized and check things off as you go. (We’re big fans of checklists!)

More than anything, we want you to feel informed, supported, and confident throughout the process. Whether you’re attending an event, visiting campus, or connecting with us virtually, we’re here to help you every step of the way.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

The application deadline is January 15th, at which time all application materials must be on file with the Admission Office. Decisions on completed applications are made available to families on March 10th. Late applications will be reviewed after March 10th on a rolling basis, if space remains available.

Submitting our online inquiry form is the first step—and it opens the door to everything that follows. Once you've inquired, you'll receive an email with instructions to set up and access your admission portal. Through your portal, you can schedule your interview and campus visit, receive updates about upcoming events, and stay in the loop as you move through the application process. (And yes, there may be some Hun swag headed your way, too.)

Step #2: Visit

Come see Hun in action.

The best way to get a feel for life here is to experience it for yourself. Our student tour guides will show you around campus, share what classes are really like, and give you an inside look at student life and signature programs — all from their own perspective. During your visit, you’ll also have a conversation with a member of our admission team so we can get to know you better.

To self-schedule your visit, please follow the instructions in your admission portal. Campus visits begin October 1st, and the application deadline is January 15th. If an on-campus visit isn't possible, you may complete your interview through The Hun School Virtual Interview, available in your admission portal, or request a Zoom interview by emailing admiss@hunschool.org.

Middle School Applicants

These visits are scheduled exclusively on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Our Middle School Spend the Day program is the best way to experience life at Hun. Students arrive at 8:15 a.m. and jump right into the day — attending classes, meeting teachers, and sharing lunch with a current Hun student. Our Middle School students have a saying: “ALAP” — as late as possible — when it comes to pick-up time. You’ll soon see why.

In the afternoon, parents return at 1:15 p.m. for a campus tour and a conversation with an admission counselor. The day concludes between 2:00 and 2:15 p.m. To schedule your Middle School visit, please log in to your admission portal. Upper School Day and Boarding Applicants

Your Hun School experience starts with a visit — come see us for a tour and interview! It's your chance to explore campus, meet our Admission team, and get a real feel for the community. If you're unable to visit campus, you can fulfill the interview requirement through The Hun School Virtual Interview, available in your admission portal. If you would prefer to schedule a Zoom interview instead, please email admiss@hunschool.org.

*Starting in December, interviews will be scheduled for applicants only. You must submit your application fee before scheduling an on- or off-campus interview.

On-Campus Interviews

Campus tours and interviews are offered Monday through Friday for Upper School applicants. The Admission Office will also share information about our Saturday visit days, which include tours and interviews specifically for boarding families. Please submit an inquiry to receive updates from our Admission Office and learn more about these opportunities.

Virtual Interviews

We look forward to connecting with all Upper School applicants. If you can't make it to campus, no problem — after submitting an inquiry and setting up your admission portal, you can complete The Hun School Virtual Interview, available in your portal. If you would prefer to meet with a member of our admission team through Zoom, please contact us at admiss@hunschool.org.

International Applicants

Common Application

The Hun School of Princeton uses the Standard Application Online (SAO) — a shared application that makes it easy to apply to multiple schools using one platform. The application opens in August each year.

Before you begin, we recommend taking a quick look through the full application so you know what to expect and what information you’ll need on hand. You can complete it at your own pace — start, pause, and come back to it whenever you’re ready.

A nonrefundable application fee of $50 (domestic) or $250 (international) is required to submit your application.

English Proficiency Exams

Applicants for whom English is not the first language are required to provide proof of their English proficiency.

The Arthur Rozas International Student Program

The Arthur Rozas International Student Program serves a small group of Upper School students each year who require English as a Second Language (ESL) support. Students in this program come to Hun from all over the world, representing more than twenty countries in a given year.

To determine the need for ESL, applicants whose first language is not English must submit the TOEFL or Duolingo English Test. These results are considered as part of a holistic review of the application, along with other materials.

Please note: ESL support is not offered in the Middle School (Grades 6–8). All Middle School applicants must be fluent in English and able to fully participate in the academic program.

Waiver Policy

If you currently attend an English-based speaking international school or a U.S.-based school for two or more years, you may be eligible for a waiver. Please contact admiss@hunschool.org to confirm your eligibility.

If that is not the case, you will be required to submit a TOEFL or Duolingo English test approved by The Hun School Admission Office.

Standardized Test Scores: "Test Flexible"

As part of the application, we ask all applicants to submit standardized testing — don’t worry, you have options. Hun accepts SSAT scores submitted through the SAO, as well as a range of other tests, including ERB, ISEE, SAT, PSAT, ACT, WISC, and approved state-administered assessments. If you’ve already taken a test, there’s a good chance we can use it. Scores can be emailed directly to the Admission Office — no need to upload them to the SAO. Not sure if your test qualifies? Just reach out — we’re happy to take a look. Our goal is to keep this requirement as flexible and low-stress as possible, while still giving our Admission Committee helpful insight into each applicant’s academic experience.

Academic Learning Skills Applicants

The Hun School's Academic Learning Skills Program (ALSP) is designed to offer personalized academic, personal management and executive function support to students with documented learning differences. Our dedicated learning specialists work one-on-one with each student, customizing a curriculum to teach compensatory skills, study strategies, and self-advocacy techniques. This individualized approach helps students achieve their academic goals and grow into independent, lifelong learners.

Additional Requirements

Applicants to the ALSP must first complete the ALSP application, located within our required application supplement. Once the application is submitted, the Admission Office will confirm receipt and provide guidance on submitting documentation and any additional testing that may be required.

Applicants must submit:

All available psycho-educational testing reports
IEPs or 504 Plans
Any other documentation relevant to their learning profile and support needs
