Retirement: Alison Chmielewski

Alison Chmielewski has been a quiet but invaluable presence at The Hun School for twenty-nine years, first as a ten-week fill-in for the Middle School secretary. She was then called to serve in the Upper School, where she became the full-time administrative assistant to the Upper School head in 2004. A scheduling master and universally beloved liaison, Ms. Chmielewski always looks out for everyone’s best interests. She received a Meritorious Service Award in 2005 and a tribute in the 2016 Edgerstounian, which noted “that the word ‘compassionate’ cannot even come close to describing her genuine and kind nature.” Her wisdom and patience have made her a force, a confidante, and a true “Heart of Hun.”

At the Faculty and Staff Closing luncheon, Upper School Head Ryan Hews said, "Most don’t see what it means to run an office for a school of 550 students but Alison’s ability to multitask, organize, see ten problems ahead of the one we’re tackling on a given day, communicate, anticipate, and reimagine better ways to do something next time are foundational to any success we’ve had over the past thirteen years and, I’m sure, in the years before that… She’s always reminded us to do the right thing and to do the good thing and at a school that prides itself most on kindness and character, she’s an unsung hero who has walked that walk every day of her career. She is unflinchingly honest and ethical and in a world where modesty is in short supply, never one to seek the praise she so justly deserves."
