Prioritizing What’s Important: Lindsay Armstrong ’22 on Making The Most of Her Senior Year

Homecoming, tennis matches, spending countless Saturdays on campus hanging out with boarders – are a few of the things that Lindsay Armstrong ’22 will miss most as she prepares to graduate in the coming days. She explains that the sense of community she has felt on the tennis court, in the classroom, and across campus is something that she will always cherish.

“I spend more time on this campus than I do at home and when I’m here I never want to leave,” Lindsay said. “Hun is a place where people are here because they want to be, not because they have to be. It is just such a welcoming environment.”

Lindsay notes that her freshman and sophomore year were incredibly impactful for her as she learned more about herself, stretched her comfort zone to new limits, and involved herself in all the community has to offer.  And while it wasn’t the most ideal scenario, Lindsay notes that spending her junior year in a hybrid-learning model helped her figure out just what she wanted out of her senior year.

“Junior year was difficult because it was such a different experience than the Hun I know and love,” she said. “But throughout the year of [hybrid]  learning I was actually able to realize what I wanted out of my high school experience and appreciate it a lot more. Coming into senior year, I really made it a priority to focus on what was important to me and to do all of the things that I once took for granted.”

For Lindsay that meant giving her all to being co-captain of the tennis team, immersing herself in the extracurricular activities Hun offers, spending time with friends, and participating in a much-anticipated senior capstone trip to the Grand Canyon.

“Because my four years here coincided with the pandemic, I actually never got the chance to travel with a NextTerm class, so when I heard about the senior capstone trip to the Grand Canyon, I knew I had to go,” she said. “There was so much anticipation leading up to that trip and one of my favorite memories from my senior year is sitting in the airport at 3:00 a.m. with all of my best friends waiting to board the plane. We were all ecstatic to be doing this together but at the same time we were sad because we realized that it was the end of our time at Hun together.”

Lindsay explains that a highlight from that trip was a group hike through the Grand Canyon with her classmates. She notes that although she and her classmates were exhausted, they never stopped motivating one another to keep going to get to the top and enjoy the view.

As the sun sets on her senior year, Lindsay would like to leave Hun students with a final world of advice:

“Your time here will go by very fast,” she said. “Be grateful and be present for the experience that you are about to have. Even when you are stressed out, just realize that everything will be okay and you have to enjoy these moments while you have them.”

Next year, Lindsay is headed to George Washington University to study international business. She plans to pair her major with a minor in either art history or finance.
