Claire F. ’26 began at The Hun School as a timid seventh grader, eager to start at a new school but worried that it would be difficult to make new friends. Claire recalls being pleasantly surprised by the upbeat and all-inclusive atmosphere of the Hun Middle School and notes that making new friends quickly became the least of her concerns.
Over the last two years, Claire has joined a variety of clubs and teams including Artcology Club, Wellness Club, the tennis team, and her personal favorite, Student Government. Claire notes that she has enjoyed student government and takes great pride in having a say in the experience her fellow students enjoy.
“I like being able to help plan fun events and social activities for my classmates,” she said. “We are responsible for planning school events like dances and fun food Fridays and we talk with Mr. Weinstein about other ideas and activities we would like to incorporate.”
While Claire is preparing to enter the Upper School, she doesn’t expect her participation in school activities and involvement to slow down. Next year, Claire plans to join the track and field team, tennis team, student government, as well as the Black Student Union.
Claire explains that she isn’t too nervous to join the Upper School and she feels thoroughly prepared thanks to the Hun Way programming along with the support from her teachers. She explains that being given an agenda planner at the beginning of the school year has allowed her to hone her time management skills.
“I’ve gotten really good at time management. We all get a planner at the beginning of the year and it has taught me to plan out my weeks, stay organized, and on task,” she said. “Even though we won’t be given those planners in the Upper School, I think that is something I will continue to do each year to help myself.”
