girls field hockey team celebrating win

On Saturday, September 18th, The Hun School’s varsity sports teams welcomed Mercersburg Academy to campus for the School’s home opener. To kick off the fall season, Hun teams celebrated wins across the board. 

Varsity Girls’ Field Hockey came out on top with an 8-0 win with goals from Lynssi Italia ’22, Ashley Jones ’22, two goals from Logan Frith ’23, Abby O’brien ’23, Ava Olender ’24, Alethia Watts-Smith ’22, and Nicki Schaefer ’22. 

Lynssi Italia ’22 notes that as a senior, she is really proud to see how far the program has come together this year, “I have really enjoyed improving alongside my teammates as well as welcoming new players each season,” she said. “I love being able to showcase the hard work we’ve put in during our practices and scrimmages and I’m looking forward to more opportunities to show off our skills as a team.” 

Varsity Boys’ Soccer had a final score of 6-2 with goals from William Zeng ’23, Massimiliano Verduci ’23, Joey Bucchere ’24, Adhityan Tamilselvan ’23, Hector Suriel ’22, and Conor Meehan ’23. 

Varsity Girls’ Tennis had a final score of 4-3, while Varsity Girls’ Soccer had a 6-0 shutout with three goals from Riley Hayes ’23, as well as goals from Neve Palmeri ’23, Olivia Spektor ’24, and Sydney Isaacson ’22.  

Riley Hayes ’23 notes that she is pleased with the team dynamic on and off the field, “Our team has a lot of potential this year,” she said “We work very well on and off the field and we have put in a lot of hard work to get where we are. Our shutout against Mercersburg showed me just how well we can play offensively and defensively. Our team has a lot of grit and we are all so happy to be back on the field.” 

Varsity football finished off the successful weekend with the last game of the day against The Brunswick School with a final score of 31-14.
