On Monday, October 25th, the Female Athlete Network, F.A.N., welcomed Mary Phelps ’06, clinical nutritionist, to campus to present on the importance of nutrition for female athletes.
As a holistic nutritionist, Ms. Phelps takes a full-circle approach to health and wellness, and believes that there is great value in recognizing the connection between the food we eat and the way we feel. She taught F.A.N. members a few tips and tricks about how to fuel their bodies for success when competing in their respective sports. Ms. Phelps also reflected on her experience at The Hun School and shared a few lessons she learned from her time as a female athlete at the School.
Lexi Acosta ’23, notes that Ms. Phelps was incredibly informative and that her presentation touched on a number of different aspects that were important in her everyday life:
“It was helpful to hear what types of foods are best for us and how we can incorporate them into our lifestyle,” she said. “She also shared some healthy habits that we could implement and even shared a few recipes.”
To close out her presentation, Ms. Phelps left F.A.N. members with her very own recipe for an electrolyte-replenishing sports drink:
2 cups water
¾ cup orange juice
¼ cup lemon juice
⅛ teaspoon pink himalayan salt
1 tablespoon raw honey
