Congratulations to Catherine Jiang '23, who recently made her big-screen debut in the feature film “Snakehead.” The story of a woman who gets involved in the human trafficking world in order to find her daughter, “Snakehead” is now available through Video on Demand and in theatres nationwide.
“Because this woman is risking her life just to see her daughter, it really humanizes the immigrant experience, so I’m happy I could be a part of the storytelling,” Catherine said recently.
Catherine filmed her scenes in the movie while still in middle school and she saw the film for the first time this summer, at a premier event in New York City.
“Ever since I was really young, I’ve dreamed about the moment I would see myself on the big theatre screen, so it was really exciting, but I was also nervous too,” she said.
But this film is also more than just a chance to see herself on the big screen: It’s a chance to see a strong female Asian lead characters, which she thinks there aren't enough of in Hollywood.
“Recently, there’s been a lot more Asian representation in film,” she says. “I’m proud to be a part of it.” Catherine hopes to see the trend continue.
