students reflect

Ahh, 2020, you have been quite a year and have challenged us in ways that we didn’t know were possible here at The Hun School.

When we think of you, a few things come to mind: toilet paper, that banana bread recipe that we mastered in quarantine, the endless technical difficulties when navigating Zoom for the first time, the moment Hun Virtual School made its debut, the empowerment of the Black Lives Matter movement, the School’s new online summer enrichment courses, our first socially distant Commencement, and so much more.

Twenty-twenty, we aren’t sure we are going to miss you, nonetheless, we will always remember you. After all, future Hun students will learn about you one day in their history courses. Perhaps we owe you a “thank you” for showing us all of the things The Hun School is capable of.

A few Hun students have reflected on their year and what they look forward to most in 2021:

What is one lesson 2020 has taught you?

“To appreciate everything I do in the moment.” - Rohan Sheth ’23
“To place more focus on myself and my health, I've also come to appreciate my friendships a lot more.” - Gabby Rinaldi ’24

“One lesson that 2020 has taught me is to be patient and kind to yourself. I also learned how to take care of my body and my mind.” - Saylah Parrish ’22

“Always express how grateful you are to have someone in your life, never know when they’re gonna go.” - Joe Martin ’21

“If 2020 has taught me anything, it's resilience. Even when it seems like everything is going wrong, it's really important to pivot in the face of adversity and move forward. For me, it was helpful to keep my routines and the controllables in my life, and to replace the moments that were overwhelming or difficult with things that make me happy, like talking with friends and being outside. 2020 as a whole was such a learning experience, and I feel like I've grown a lot from it.” - Bella Gomez ’22

Favorite 2020 memory?

“Constantly reminding my teachers they’re muted, or being able to play fall sports.” - Ethan Borowsky ’22

“The first time I stepped on Hun’s campus since last year. It was so nice seeing people I hadn’t seen in several months.” - Ruben Chandwani ’22

“Being able to play soccer on campus with my teammates.” Zoey Palmer ’24

“I really enjoyed that first day back to school in person when I saw all of my friends and teachers for the first time in a long time.”  Hailen Arp ’22

“Spirit week!” - Diana Wolfe ’24

What are you looking forward to most in 2021?

“In 2021 I’m looking forward to life hopefully getting back to normal.” - Laila Palmer ’21

“'I'm looking forward to change. As humans we tend to repeat our mistakes when we forget to acknowledge and reflect on the past. Next year I am looking forward to a world filled with more self awareness and reflection, but most importantly, more empathy. Empathy for those who have lost loved ones, jobs, homes, and even hope. Next year I’m looking forward to things being better, even if it’s just by a little bit.” - Lily L’Oiseau ’22

“I am really looking forward to bettering myself in 2021 using all of the things I learned in 2020 to make myself a better person. “ - Ashley Jones ’22

“I’m most looking forward to a bunch of tv shows and movies that are coming out in 2021!” - Arianna Ding ’22

“In 2021 I look forward to taking the Chemistry SAT Subject Test (I never thought I would say that, but it has been cancelled 3 times!)” - Neela Murti ’22
