Summer Day Camp

The Camp Program

What sets the day camp apart from other camps in the area? It is our experienced adult counselors, spirited and responsible junior counselors, and happy campers after a fun-filled day. Our parents have described day camp this way:

“Hun is a wonderful, special place with caring, fun and warm adults who provide an experience that for me and my children is tops.”

“I specifically chose this camp because of its low-key approach to summer fun. I love how the camp re-enforces my values.”

The morning program includes three activity periods where campers choose from archery, kickball, soccer, basketball, golf, fishing, nature study, Rambo, commando, prison dodge, tennis baseball, pillow polo, training, and more. Campers are placed into groups based on their age and gender. Campers chose their activities as a group and sometimes participate with other camp groups. An art project is integrated weekly into the schedule along with the traditional “tie-dying shirt” project. Afternoons are spent at The Pennington School where campers participate in free swim and swim instruction.

Special Activities

Campers look forward to the change of pace provided by theme days such as Carnival Day, Red and Black Day, Water Sports Day, and our annual competitions: crazy hat and spaghetti eating! The culminating event of the summer is the sleepover on the last night, involving special activities, a talent show, and breakfast the next morning.

Staff

Hun School faculty and staff, along with local elementary teachers, compose the camp counselor staff. Junior counselors are either Hun School students or students that have been a camper in the past and are in good standing. Children receive supervision that is both experienced and caring. Instructors and lifeguards with certified Red Cross water safety and life-saving credentials oversee the swim program. William Long, Dean of Students at The Hun School, provides the exceptional leadership that has distinguished the camp as one of the area’s finest.

Facilities

The Hun School’s athletic center, tennis courts, athletic fields, shady lawns and classrooms are supplemented by The Pennington School’s Olympic-size swimming pool. The air-conditioned dining hall provides campers with their choice of hot or cold entrees, salad bar, and fresh fruit for lunch. An afternoon snack is provided.

Extended Care Program

Our extended care program allows parents to bring children to camp one hour before camp begins and stay up to two hours at the end of camp. Both sessions are supervised by experienced counselors and junior counselors. During this time, campers enjoy free play and organized games. A snack in provided during the afternoon session. Extended care can be used on a regular basis or day-by-day, depending on need. Fees for care are $5.00 per hour in the morning and $8.00 per hour for the afternoon care.
