Academic Session
June 30th to August 1st, 2008
The Academic Sessions consists of a variety of courses that students can choose from for either credit or for enrichment. Credit courses are called Comprehensive courses and are for students wishing to accelerate through their curriculum at their own school. Students may also take comprehensive courses to make up a failing grade. These courses meet during both class periods (five hours a day) for the five-week session. The Hun School provides the credit course, but it is up to the student’s current school to award the credit.
Preview, review or enrichment classes are designed for students wishing to overcome problems in a particular subject. Students may choose to enroll in a course that reviews course work they have taken or to preview a course they will take in the fall. Students may select one or two courses form this category. Each course is two-and-a half hours per day and meets during first or second period. (Reading and Writing meets both periods). Classes are held in air-conditioned classrooms in the Upper School Academic Building. Note: The School reserves the right to cancel a course that does not meet the minimum requirement of four students per course.

Activities Program
The Activities Program takes place from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and provides an opportunity for an extended summer day at The Hun School. During this time, day students may participate in activities with resident students (the activities program is part of the resident student’s day and tuition). During the day students sign up for activities on campus ranging from Poe Lounge, complete with large screen TV and gaming systems, to ping-pong or foosball, the Fitness Center, organized sports and games, or an off-campus trip. The off-campus trips may not take place every day. The fee for this program is $275 for the five-week program. Students need to sign up in advance on the application.
Resident Life
For residential students, The Hun School is more than academic study in the summer. It is also about finding independence and experiencing new things. The summer resident faculty fosters a strong academic environment with a clear structure, while at the same time creating a sense of home. Living and learning with others enhances personal growth and sets a firm foundation for college and beyond.
Summer resident students stay in Carter and Poe Dorms with resident faculty living on each floor. Dorm rooms are equipped with furniture, but students need to bring linens, a fan, and a small lamp. Resident students receive details once they are enrolled.
Following the academic day, our resident director coordinates activities
on weekdays and weekends along with resident staff. Each weekday afternoon
resident students have the opportunity to participate in activities. These
may include off-campus activities such as swimming; ice skating, bowling,
mini-golf, or “town permission.” Our summer game room includes
a large screen, flat-panel TV with video game systems, ping-pong and foosball.
Outside games and tournaments are organized based on student interest.
Special weekly events, such as yoga or karate, are brought to campus for
the student’s enjoyment. The Fitness Center is also open during
designated hours. Weekends are reserved for more organized fun. Off-campus
and on-campus trips are scheduled that includes amusement parks, the Jersey
shore, Friday night movies, trips to Hoagie Haven in Princeton, and sightseeing
to Philadelphia and New York. On certain weekends, resident students in
the American Culture and Language Institute go on trips that are affiliated
with that program.
